Layering your skincare products

Layering your skincare products

Routine is key when it comes to establishing a skincare routine.  If you don’t have a routine yet, don’t worry, because we’re going to lay it all out for you so that you can start one today.  Layering your skincare products will help to keep your skin smooth, soft and supple.  And it doesn’t have to be lots and lots of steps.  Start with the basics and you can add onto it and change up products as your skin concerns change.

Everyone should do the three main steps.

Cleanse

If you’re not cleansing your skin, then you’re not getting the most out of your other skincare products.  Applying them to uncleansed skin means they’re not going to be absorbed by the skin fully and work to the best of their abilities.  Cleansing your skin will remove all traces of makeup, excess oil and impurities.

Start with an oil-based cleanser like Nettoyant Crème, and if you’re double cleansing, use a gel cleanser like Gel Nettoyant.  They’re both gentle enough to be used on the eyes, lips and face.

Tone

Toning the skin can help to treat and rebalance it, while giving it a boost of hydration.  An alcohol-free toner like Lotion Yon-Ka will hydrate the skin, prepping the skin for your serums.  Apply it generously to the skin, then press it in to help it penetrate.

Moisturiser

Moisturising the skin helps to protect the skin’s barrier that locks in hydration and keeps impurities out.  A moisturiser also locks in any serums that you’ve used beforehand, helping to seal them against the skin to improve their efficacy.

In the morning, a lightweight moisturiser like Time Resist Jour is a great option as it’s hyaluronic acid-based and helps to tackle the visible signs of aging.  At night, try a thicker moisturiser like Time Resist Nuit or Crème 28 to amp up the hydration while you sleep.

Serums

It’s best to use a serum that’s targeted towards your specific skin concern.  Serums are usually water-based in terms of formula, with concentrated nutrients, antioxidants or hydrating ingredients.  They can be applied morning or evening over your toner and under your moisturiser.  Yon-Ka Advanced Optimizer Serum lifts, firms and tightens the skin while boosting collagen production.  A really effective anti-aging serum is the Yon-Ka Cellular Code serum which helps to reinvigorate the skin and restore its youthful appearance.

When layering your skincare products, especially with serums, it’s important to apply them to the skin from the thinest texture to the thickest texture.  This will ensure maximum absorption of the products so that you get the best results.

Eye Cream

Adding an eye cream into your skincare routine will address concerns like puffiness, dark circles and fine lines.  Yon-Ka Alpha Contour can be used on the eye area and around the lips too.  It gently renews cells and visibly smoothes wrinkles and fine lines.  Nutri-Contour intensely nourishes the skin around the eyes and lips, keeping them balanced and hydrated.

SPF

In the morning, no matter what your skin type or concern is, it’s important to use a broad-spectrum SPF like Yon-Ka Paris SPF50.  It gives UVA and UVB protection and is suitable for all skin types, even sensitive skin.  It also fights oxidative stress and photo-aging.  This should be the last step in your morning skincare routine.
